How Productive Are You? Check With These Keys To Productivity

How Productive Are You? Check With These Keys To Productivity

Productivity is essential for every person. Whether you run a business on your own, or work for your boss, or work at home at your free will you need this thing called productivity.

If you have your own business, you see that you are productive yourself and you also want your staff team to be productive.

If you work for your boss, you are accountable to him/her and he/she wants you to be productive.

And, you are also accountable to yourself because you get paid for what you do and your future career or life depends on your current performance.

If you work at home you cannot be unproductive just because no one is watching you.

Your very purpose of working from home will be at risk if you don’t take enough efforts to boost your productivity.

So let’s run a fact check to see how productive you are.

Do you have a goal?

If you don’t have a goal you are not sure about what you are working on. In that case, how could you expect yourself to be productive?

I mean, there are two basic connections between having a goal and productivity as a measure:

If you don’t have a goal,

(i) you don’t have something to work on,

(ii) or, you don’t clearly know what to work on (but there is something for you to work on).

In both the cases, you simply either don’t work at all or you don’t work effectively.

Case (ii) is where you put all your efforts, hard work and energy but you don’t know where to focus them.

Hence all your hard work will go wasted since things are not streamlined.

You could appear to be busy all day, yet you won’t accomplish anything meaningful at the end of the day.

Passion

Passion

When you have passion with what you are working on…

You don’t have to wait for the right time, a comfortable zone or a favourable situation to work towards your goal. That is why it is very important that you start working on things you are passionate about.

While it is important that you choose a business idea that is profitable, you must also see whether you are passionate about that particular idea.

I’m not saying you should cling on your passion and forget about the profitability.

You should have both of these in the right proportion so you can run a profitable business without making it feel like work or having to jump off the wagon!

Commitment

Commitment

When I had a full time job (as a Research Scientist in the field of Medical Physics, not just 9-5 kinda stuff but even more; you know it’s research), a family to take care of and my personal self to take care, I put a regular amount of time everyday into blogging.

Even today as a full time blogger, I write content every day, I hone my blog articles, I write guest posts, I take care of the design, administration and other management tasks associated with my blogs and those of my clients and so on.

But I don’t feel that I am getting squeezed, while in fact I am. The commitment comes by default when I have passion towards doing what I love.

The very fact that I am committed to what I do makes me productive. I don’t just work hard but work smart because of my passion and commitment.

Discipline

In general, a disciplined person can get a lot out of the available time and resources and hence can easily prove to be productive.

A disciplined person is organized. There are very little chances of looking into lost things again and again and hence wasting precious working time.

A disciplined person has goals and action plans. They know where they want to focus their energy and hard work.

They also know how to achieve something, that is the actual route to achieving something.

A disciplined person is well aware of time wasters like TV, mindless browsing, pointless texting and chatting, endless reading online or offline (without making use of the content or taking action) and so on.

A disciplined person has many good habits that boost their productivity. And, they have very less bad habits to waste their time and energy upon.

Being organized

Being organized

This follows simply from a disciplined lifestyle. As I said earlier, you cannot stop a disciplined person from being organized.

They can get a file or a paper from their desk or their shelf when they need it.

When you spend enormous amount of time in figuring things out, that is a big hit on your productivity.

If you are organized, you have already figured out most things, you remember them (or make it easier to remember) and hence you don’t have to reinvent the wheel every time.

Your productivity does not depend on the time you are trying to work, but it rather depends on the time you are actually working on.

Do you have these keys? If not, then work on those that you are lacking.

How to get unstuck and move forward in business and life

January 16, 2020 by Jane Sheeba 5 Comments

How to get unstuck

Getting stuck or having no progress is something we all come across. It is not new.

If you have been feeling stuck and think that you don’t have made any progress either in business or life, here’s the thing – you are not alone.

Any great enthusiast or a successful business owner or a happily living person has always had this episode of feeling stuck.

It is usually a phase that extends for a particular period of time – the time depends on how fast you choose to take action to get unstuck.

Now, even though getting stuck is quite normal and everyone has gone through it, that doesn’t mean it is OK to stay stuck.

You absolutely need to get out of that stuck state because if you don’t do that, you will be well, stuck at a point in your life or business.

Stuck means, no progress, no moving forward, nothing. And that ain’t good, right?

So let’s figure out how to really get unstuck and move forward.

#1 Realize and accept that you are stuck

This is THE number 1 thing you need to do to get unstuck.

Because unless you realize that you are stuck, you are not going to take any action to get unstuck. That’s a straightforward reasoning, right?

So this means you need to analyze your efforts and the results you get by putting those efforts.

If your efforts and the results don’t equate, or if they seem disproportionate, its highly likely that you are stuck.

In addition, being stuck could also mean that you didn’t put any effort into moving forward.

So from realizing that you are stuck to…. to do something to fix it, you need one another key thing and that’s accepting the fact that you are actually stuck.

Because many times our mind won’t let us accept failure or stagnation or shortcoming.

Once you realize and accept that you’re stuck, bravo, its time for the next step.

#2 Zoom back and look at the big picture

Getting stuck is often associated with you looking too much into the details. A very detailed view of things in life and business is crucial.

But it is even more important that you often zoom back and look at the big picture.

So what happens when you zoom out?

You will be able to clearly see what you have been overthinking or overworking about.

You will be able to unearth strategies or methods that are actually giving you results, and also identify the strategies or methods that don’t work.

You will be able to clearly see what your why is, and where you are actually headed.

In most cases you are not really headed to your goal backedup by your “why”.

Or you are not moving forward with the necessary momentum to get there.

So you get to realize all these things only when you zoom out and look at the big picture.

#3 Set goal(s) and make a game plan

Now that you have realized that you are stuck and you have an idea about what’s wrong, its time to fix it.

So let’s fix that by starting with your “why”. There’s a why for anything and everything you do with business and life.

  • Why you are in this particular relationship?
  • Why are you doing this particular business?
  • Why did you make this particular decision in life?

Everything you do in life and business has a “why”.

Bring up that why and remember it. Now you need to set a realistic and precise goal that aligns with your why.

And remember, a goal is just a wish without a plan.

#4 Bring it all together and get into action

Now I can’t give you any more detailed steps because after this point, things really get personal.

Everyone’s why and goals and plans will be much different.

But here’s what needs to be done in any case. You just have to sit down and bring all the bits and pieces together.

Your realization or the data that tells you that you are stuck, your why, your goals, and your action plans.

All these need to be put together so you can actually get up and move away from the stuck position.

You don’t need to do things with utmost speed. What’s important now is that just get unstuck.

And then do things with your way, at your own pace.

The most important thing right now is that you get moving.

Why 80% of New Year resolutions are a failure (and how to fix it)

December 30, 2019 by Jane Sheeba 14 Comments

Why 80% of New Year resolutions are a failure (and how to fix it)

Do you know that over 80% of the New Year resolutions end up as a failure? It is heart breaking isn’t?

Have you thought about the reasons? Or do you just cast a resolution every year and then forget about it?

With business and life, New Year resolutions play a very crucial role. They help you stay focused on your goals and make your life and business a lot meaningful.

So I guess you cannot afford to let another year go by with failed or abandoned New Year resolutions.

Let’s find out why your New Year resolutions fail (if) and find out how to fix that.

This way for the coming years, you need not face a failure with your New Year resolutions!

Let me briefly point out why over 80% of the New Year resolutions or goals end up as a failure.

Reason #1

Most of us have wrong notions about the New Year resolutions. Some consider it as a seasonal thing.

It is rather a Marathon and not a sprint, so it takes slow and steady effort with loads of self discipline to be able to succeed with your New Year resolutions.

Reason #2

Not being reasonable and realistic with your New Year goals

Most of us end up making some of the most common resolutions like lose weight, spend more quality time with your family, make a new (good) habit, travel more, quit drinking, quit smoking and the like.

Why? Because these are the most common New Year resolutions that are around.

So naturally your mind is only trained to think like that – and you start to go the conventional route.

Now, this not a big blunder. But this is where you might go unrealistic in the first place. Because the most common resolutions are not always the ones that best suit you!

So make sure you clearly analyze your life and business and then make a resolution that would absolutely improve the quality of your life/business.

Plus it should be something that is doable for you. Something that fits in your circle.

Reason #3

You take will power for granted

Now I plan to make a separate video on this whole will power thing.

But here’s a brief – will power is a very limited resource that gets depleted every time you use it.

So you use nearly all of your will power at the beginning of the New Year where the enthusiasm is so high and you are all pumped up.

As a result, your motivation and self discipline start to fade away by the end of January or beginning of February.

And before you know it, your New Year resolution is in the air!

So these three reasons are the most common reasons as to why over 80% of the New Year resolutions fail.

Now shall we fix that?

Fix #1: It doesn’t have to be a New Year resolution

See, I am not against making New Year resolutions. A New Year means a new beginning and a great way to kick start anything.

So a resolution or a goal is a great thing to keep you focused for the entire year.

However, New Year is not the only time you have to make resolutions.

You can make goals or resolutions at any time of the year and still keep up with it.

I say this for two important reasons:

Reason #1

A New year may not be the right time to start executing certain resolutions.

For instance, let’s assume your resolution is about weight loss or working out. Around New Year is the time of celebrations.

You have Christmas, New Year, and celebrations where you are probably partying, drinking, eating lots of junk, traveling and so on.

So even though your mind wants to keep up with your resolution, the reality won’t let you do so!

Reason #2

You can achieve more than one resolutions if you spread them across the year.

The last thing you would want to do is to be hard on yourself and try to accomplish more than one resolution at the same time.

It simply won’t work. By spreading your resolutions throughout the year, you will be able to succeed with all of them.

Rather than trying to launch your course, and quit smoking and lose weight at the same time you can work on one resolution for 4 months and have all of them accomplished by the end of the year.

Fix #2: Back up your New Year resolution with a solid action plan

Well, you know that a goal without a plan is just a wish.

So if you just cast a New Year resolution on January 1st and then go lead your regular life, it isn’t gonna work. Unless you have a magic wand.

Your resolution needs a solid plan so you take those nice and strong steps to do things one by one and achieve that resolution.

For instance, if your resolution is to lose weight, you need to get precise on how much you want to lose. That’s the first step.

Then you need to devise a plan that involves you to decide how you are going to do that.

Are you going to change your diet? Do you have plans to make any lifestyle changes? And what is your workout plan?

You need to block times in your calendar for your workout plan.

You need to plan your cooking accordingly so you minimize eating out or eating junk and cook healthy food!

Fix #3: Don’t deplete your will power

I am quite familiar with people being way too enthusiastic around New Year and hence try too hard to work on their New Year resolutions.

So for the first few weeks into the New Year, you can see them all pumped up and posting pictures of their workouts, or diets, or updates telling us how they are working on quitting smoking, or the documentation of their work on launching product and so on.

But after a few weeks, you will slowly stop getting those updates. Why? Because they have depleted their will power by being too hard on themselves.

Just because you are so excited about the New Year and your New Year resolution, it doesn’t mean you have to try and do everything at once.

This will simply deplete your will power. And before you know it, you will have jumped off the wagon.

So are you ready to succeed with your New Year resolution this year? Don’t forget to make note of the tips I shared here!
