Why your business is not making any progress (and why nobody cares)?

Spread the love

I’m going to address a serious problem in this blog post – A problem almost all entrepreneurs who give up soon experience.

In fact, this is the sole reason why they decide to give up so soon!

And what is that? Business NOT making any progress, despite all the hard work you put into it.

Your business goes nowhere. It doesn’t accomplish what you want it to accomplish.

More importantly, nobody pays attention!

And, without your readers paying attention, you cannot do any business.

Can you relate?

I raise this topic today because I am overwhelmed with queries like this in my inbox.

My consultation clients and many of my readers want to know why their blog is stagnant. And why nobody is paying attention to what they do.

I’m sure you’d want to know that too.

You …

  • do whatever you can to take your business forward
  • want people to subscribe to your list
  • want your readers to share your blog posts all over social media
  • want people to praise your content
  • want customers lining up to buy your products or to avail your services

But none of this happens. And, what should you do about it (apart from all the hard work you put in)?

Let me share a story of mine where I went through the same thing.

In my case, ignorance was NOT bliss!

I’m sure you know some of my backstory as to how I started this whole blogging thingy. If not, you can read about it here.

I started a blog, and not a business. But that’s only a small fraction of the mistake I made.

[clickToTweet tweet=”When your business is not making progress, ignorance is NOT bliss!” quote=”When your business is not making progress, ignorance is NOT bliss!”]

I was spending days and nights crafting content for my first blog that I started without any idea of what I was doing.

I didn’t allow myself to take holidays. I was writing and publishing content even on holidays.

I was aggressively active with blogging.

Still, I couldn’t see any progress – ANY PROGRESS – despite all the hard work.

Do you know how it feels? If you work on something with all your heart, but realise that it doesn’t pay?

Heartbreaking, isn’t?

It gets even worse

It took me 10 months – close to a year! – to realise that nobody was paying attention to me. And that my business was going nowhere.

In fact, I was not running a business at all.

Why did it took me so long? Because I was not analyzing to see if my strategies were working or not.

Above all, I was not following any strategy in the first place. None!

Do you see how bad the problem is? You could be in the same boat.

I’m not saying this to scare you. I want you to realise things as soon as possible, and not waste time and energy like I did.

Here are some of the major causes for my problem

  • I didn’t have any clarity about what I was doing.
  • I didn’t know what I was doing.
  • I didn’t know what I want from what I was doing (the blog).
  • I didn’t know if I have achieved something or not (because I didn’t define my success, yet).
  • I didn’t know if I had a strategy
  • I didn’t know if my strategy worked – if I happened to have a strategy.
  • I didn’t pay attention to what others were doing to rock it, while I was standing there at the same place!

This was me in 2008. As you can see, my ignorance was not bliss.

It took me another year to identify the problems and fix them. Altogether it was 2 good years before I could start making any progress.

Or at least, I started to work for that progress in the right direction.

I don’t want YOU to waste your precious time (and money)!

If I had realised the problem and if I had known the solutions, I could have fixed things right away.

But I learned stuff the hard way. The trial and error way. The bumpy way.

It not only cost me time but also did cost me money.

While my business was going nowhere, I was still paying my hosting bills, autoresponder renewals, software renewals and many more!

So technically even though my business didn’t see any progress, I was still spending time and money to keep it afloat. That was a shame.

[clickToTweet tweet=”If your business is not moving forward despite the hard work, you should start taking things seriously!” quote=”If your business is not moving forward despite the hard work, you should start taking things seriously!”]

In the next blog post, I will share some of the worst mistakes you could be making that contribute to your stagnation.

If you are blogging with all your heart and yet if you see no progress (no clients, no sales, no income) you should start taking things seriously.

You should identify and rectify any causes for that problem.

And unlike me, you don’t have to waste years in figuring that out.

I’ll share more in my next blog post. Stay tuned!

    Nice blog Jane.

I also faced the same situation in my starting stage of blogging. I used not get much traffic, but still used to pay Monthly domain, hosting and auto responder charges.

I sometimes used to get demotivated, but blogs like yours used to keep up my motivation.

In my experience the best advice I can give to newbie bloggers is to be consistent on what you are doing and at the same time keep analyzing on what is working and what is not.

Blogging will definitely take time to show its results. Have patience and keep going.

    Thanks

  • Jane, I can totally relate to what you have written.

It does get frustrating for bloggers who are relatively new to this field not see the results commensurate with the efforts they put in.

The best way would be to analyse where one is going wrong, which area one needs to improve and keep trying.

Positive attitude, hard and smart work, analysis and change of strategy and perseverance are the keys to success.

I shall be waiting for your next mail.

    Thanks,
    Surabhi

    Hello Jane,

    Good one over here :)

Indeed we all want to get going with our blogs, but at first when we all started, we all lack something which took us years
of making our blog popular and make our stand in the crowd.

I too, when started my blog, I was just writing content, publishing it, not doing much of promotions, not a kind of networking
was envying other bloggers, things ran like this for almost an year. Nothing was happening and I was going hyper and losing
hope at the same time. Then I realized I need to re start the whole scenario once again, I got in the back seat, did some
more research and hit the same course after 6 months. Now I was out from my blogging bubble, I was making friends,
commenting on blogs daily and sharing their content over the social media platform regularly . Yeah not up to that extent,
but yeah things turn down for me, it did a little but it matter a lot for me.

We need to be specific about what are we going to write and what type of people are we going to hit, having a target in mind
    always help us.

    Thanks for the share.

    Shantanu.
